Leadership

Operator-led, relationship-driven

Cane Energy Partners is led by principals with deep commercial and operational experience in refined-products markets — people who have structured transactions, managed credit risk, and physical product, and who work directly with the counterparties they serve.

Leadership

Cane Energy is directed by principals who bring commercial and operational depth to refined-products execution.

Managing Partner

David S. Fontenot

David S. Fontenot is the Managing Partner of Cane Energy Partners and the founder of Cane Capital Management, which he launched in 2007 and where he continues to serve as Chief Investment Officer. Over nearly two decades he has built and overseen the firm’s investment strategies, including its flagship program, applying a disciplined, risk-managed approach to markets.

Before founding Cane Capital, David spent ten years as a proprietary trader and portfolio manager. He holds a B.B.A. (1998) and an M.B.A. (1999) from Millsaps College, is registered with the NFA and SEC, and holds Series 3, 30, and 65 licenses.

Director of Business Development

Grant Hodgins

Grant Hodgins leads counterparty origination and commercial strategy for Cane Energy’s Gulf Coast refined-products platform. He brings over a decade of experience in risk management and structured commercial advisory across the energy and industrial sectors, advising principals on transaction structuring, credit exposure, and long-term partnership development.

Earlier in his career, Grant held management roles with one of the Gulf South’s largest marine logistics operators, overseeing bulk commodity movements along the Mississippi River corridor — experience that grounds his commercial work in the physical realities of moving product. He holds a B.S. in Finance from Louisiana State University.

A grounded, operator-led approach

Cane Energy is run by principals who stay close to the transactions. That proximity — to the supply, the counterparties, and the day-to-day execution — is what makes the platform reliable.

Direct engagement

Leadership works directly with qualified counterparties rather than through layered intermediaries. When you transact with Cane, you deal with the principals who structure and stand behind the trade — which means faster decisions and clearer accountability.

Operational Depth

Execution and controls are led by people close to the day-to-day activity of the platform. Our team understands the logistics, documentation, and credit mechanics of moving physical product because they’ve done the work themselves, not delegated it.

Long-term view

Relationships are built to last beyond any single transaction. We measure success by repeat flow and durable counterparty trust, and we structure every arrangement with that longer horizon in mind.
